Follow Up: Roundtable Q&A Items

Q: Can we support a default custom imagery for each provider type?
A: We are unable to set a general default image, but the standard functionality of
sending a photopath URL by provider will work

Q: What is the criteria to determine the top 2 specialities displayed in the header?
A: The first 2 specialities listed in the sequence of specialities sent in the provspecialty
record layout.

Q: If a ‘primary location’ is not indicated in the data, will the flag display?
A: No - the primary location is an optional field and must be provided in the data to
appear as an elevated flag

Usability Considerations

Why make these changes

  • User feedback told us that it was difficult to distinguish between places and people. We needed
to do more to differentiate cards in a consistent way
  • Horizontal sections showing name and location at the same hierarchical level made scanning
    difficult
  • Long place names and complicated addresses were causing display issues

References

  1. For avatars, we referenced best practices/patterns used by Google, Apple, Dropbox and others to
use initials to represent people. We chose not to use icons shaped like people because they don’t
pair easily with client brands and create issues with gender assumptions. Initials are simple, data
    driven and familiar.
  2. We recognized our two column header was not standard and we’ve had feedback that they were
difficult to scan. Familiar directories like Google Maps, Yelp, and Airbnb use a simple vertical
layout. Easier to read and linear in hierarchy.
